[14] The Watchmen
1-2hrs

The amount of treasure at the start of the game should be counted.

The smuggler (players) are split into two equal teams and a playing area defined. Both Teams start at the same a base and a pile of currency (potatoes/carrot chunks/macaroni/dried peas). A leader may be necessary at the target base to count/keep safe any successfully smuggled currency. The lighthouse watchmen (leaders) stand still in a spread out line half way between the bases.

At the start of the game each player takes between one and five pieces (depends on amount of treasure, number of players, game duration and how brace the smuggler feels) of their treasure and tries to sneak it safely to the other base. Please ask smugglers not to ‘loose treasure overboard’ if caught.

If a lighthouse watchmen hears a smuggler he/she turns on his/her torch in a short targeted burst towards the smuggler. If a smuggler is hit (and optionally, identified) with the torch then the smuggler must hand the treasure to the watchmen. The smuggler can then escape to try again. The game continues for a defined period of time or until there is no more treasure to smuggle. At the end of the game a count is taken of the successfully smuggled treasures minus the treasure confiscated by the watchmen.

The total amount of treasure at the end of the game should be the same as at the beginning. If there is less, then presumably caught smugglers have thrown some of their treasures overboard rather than hand to the watchmen. Please feel free to make that team do the washing up for the duration of camp!.
