| Over the May spring bank holiday weekend a camp called Experience that
hasn’t been run for over five years was resurrected from the ashes
in attempt to provide everyone who attended with a truly unforgettable experience.
Hosted at the Oaks in Charnwood Scout Campsite, the camp saw over 350 Scouts,
Guides, Explorers and Leaders descend on the site to enjoy a wealth of activities
over the extended weekend. Activities included: High Ropes, Bungee Trampolines,
Archery, Black Hole, Circus Skills, Climbing, Abseiling, Bouldering, Shooting,
Crafts, Orienteering, Pioneering, Jungle trail…… the list is
endless |

| The theme of this year’s camp was Medieval and was appropriately
hosted by a Crusader King, and his court of Fair Maidens, Knights and Jesters
all dressed in Medieval costume. From the opening ceremony it was obvious
that this camp was going to be a little different from other camps. Within
minuets a leader had been sentenced to the stocks for being too boring and
the Crusader King was already being met with heckling for vouching to hunt
down Robin Hood and bring him to justice. But he did promise that there
would be many challenges, challenges that would test the courage and valour
of even the bravest knight. In return for completion of these challenges
everyone would be rewarded on the Sunday evening with a Medieval Fair &
Banquet with enough food and drink for everyone to eat like Lords and live
like Kings. |

Well, the King certainly did keep to his promise and after everyone
had got to experience over 11 different activities over the Saturday
and Sunday, and the great hall had been decorated with banners, flags
and drapes the whole camp descended on the hall to take part in host
of medieval games. Everyone was dressed in medieval costume and got
to take part in Caber Tossing, Snail Racing, Coconut Shy, Apple Bobbing
and even King of The Ring. After the fair had finished everyone sat
down ... |

| ... to enjoy a most fabulous feast of hog roast and fire roasted
jacket potatoes all whilst being entertained with a wealth of competitions
and games courtesy of the Court Jester and the Crusader King. After
the 3 Sub camps (Lion Hearts, Camelot Crusaders and Dragon Slayers)
had battled it out all evening to be the greatest and the loudest
everyone got their blankets to watch Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
on a giant screen in the wood.
The weather may have been a little inclement during the weekend
and the wind might have ripped the marquee in half on the Monday
morning, but it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits and for
those of you who didn’t attend you certainly missed an experience.
